I am all finished with my build and wanted to post my build pics to give a little back to everyone else who posted pics. The build pics were super helpful, so hopefully you will get some helpful tips by looking through my build. I would encourage anyone considering a build to go for it...its super fun and rewarding. Also...Big THANKS! to Chad who was super responsive on e-mail when I got stuck a few times. Attachments:

When I built my jig, I set the skeleton on the work bench I built with just two planks set across the center and then just measured the hieght of each rib working from the center out toward the tip / tail...it went pretty quick once I got going. Attachments:

I was pretty nervous to glue up all the board for the skins at one time, but they came out pretty good. I used a clamp set up every two feet and that seem to be enough to keep everything pretty flush. As I clamped the boards tight, I figured out that you could get everything pretty well lined up by pushing up/down...holding it for a minute, and then it would stay in place. So I would just work one seam at a time until things looked pretty good. I did need to do a little sanding once things were dry. The bottom skin is all cedar...the top is cedar and redwood. The cedar was much more stable and easier to work with. I got cracks in the redwood that I had to fill in later. Attachments:

I used all threads on my jig. I just followed suit on what I saw other people doing with their jigs...I think this is the way to go. Although, I will say that when you go to glue the skins on, its helpful to have two people so you can tighten down each strap from both sides at the same time. Attachments:

The rails took me a long time...I ended up using 3/4 stock...which was a mistake on my part, I think 1 inch is the way to go. I needed 9 rails on each side. It didn't cause any problems, but it certainly would have gone faster had I used thicker stock. From what I gather, rails pretty much crack for everyone...but just glue them up and clamp them up as flush as you can. More clamps you have the better...as you can see, I used a lot of clamps. I ended up with some voids where I did not successfully clamp the rails tight. So take your time and get them nice and tight. Attachments:

For the nose and tail, I used a solid block. The nose is kinda like a butcher block where I just glued a lot of little peices together. Attachments:

cracks. Here is a pic of the size cracks I got in the redwood. I used saw dust and glue to fill in the cracks and that worked well. Attachments:

when I started shaping, I rough cut some of the excess stock with my jig saw set on a 45 degree angle, then I used a power plainer, then it was all belt sander from there. Once I had the shape down, I used a palm sander to get it nice and smooth. Attachments:

here is a picture of filling in some voids. first I put the glue on, then sprinkled the saw dust on...and with rubber gloves, I work the glue and dust into the voids. I wish I did a better job of keeping things flush, but the filler seemed to work fine. I just hope it stays put for years to come...I think it will. Attachments:
