Unfortunately...after riding my board several times...the entire top skin popped off the frame...I think it popped all at once because I forgot to put the plug in...but also...now that I have the skin back off I can see I did not get a tight bond (I will be re-working my clamping system). This time around I am planning to resin the inside of the board and have been working to get all the gorilla glue off the inside of the board. There are spots that are going to be really tough to get squeaky clean and wondering if the resin will work if I go over spots where there is still glue. I will be using general purpose 2:1 epoxy from Fiberglass Florida. Would love to hear what people think...I plan to do some testing but wondering if anyone has experience. Thanks. Attachments:

Hey epiziali!
Ouch!
Hard to believe that your clamping system didn't work! Looking at those photo's it looks clean and tight...
When you say that you think it popped because you forgot to put the plug in it seems counterintuitive. I can understand it if you leave the plug in and left it sit on the beach for a couple of hours, heats the internal air up and then bang! But if you left the plug out...could you explain that more?
Anyway, I hope that your repair is quick to get done and that it is very successful!
The other question that I had was about putting resin in the inside of the board, are you expecting to leave the plug out and have to deal with water on the inside? I know that I used gorilla glue (unfortunately the water resistant type, not the water-proof) and to quell any fears of water getting inside the board and screwing up my glue I painted the inside of the board with enamel paint and then closed it up. Fiberglass Florida has great products so I'm sure the general purpose 2:1 epoxy will work fine.
Thanks for the info!

great questions...sorry I was not clear. I left the plug out, took it out for a ride and got a whole bunch of water inside the board...so I think the wood swelled and popped everything up. I do intend to use the plug again...just looking to make the inside a bit more water resistent/proof should I make the same mistake again.

Ahhhhhhhh, now I see it! I would definately hit the inside with the epoxy or maybe just some good old enamel paint on the inside! The other thing that I was thinking about on my next board was to use a vent that had a "goretex" cover, breathes the air, but doesn't let the water in! Never have to worry about where that nylon plug is!!! Thanks for the update and can't wait to see how you solve the issue. Enjoy!
