Well, I just got back from travels and was all set to get these last bits done. So I set up some practice wood to try my $20 router out. Worked fine, was reminded what a beast these things are and then set out to cut my fin box hole... 1 hour to make some guides, measure 3 times you know and then I was ready to go, drilled a pilot hole and then started the router. And the shank holder thing broke. Made lots of noise, but that was it. I should know better than to trust a $20 router...no damage, but back to square one on finding an inexpensive router that works. been on a 4 day bender to get this thing done ..... finished bottom side and foiled the fin ... man, i love my da, makes 40 grit look like 100 .....bring your board and try it out.... i got some 80 grit left ....

I decided to do the fin box without a router (cheap guy) so I started off with some drill holes at all 4 corners, then some circular saw plunge cuts (watched internet how-to video first!). Attachments:
