I am about to start building my first SUP. In the book it says that you don't need a thickness planer but it helps. I don't have one and was wondering how to do it without one. Here are my ideas so far. First I can take a collection from all those on this forum so I can buy a new planer(not sure that one is going to work). Second, I can build a second ripping jig to run the boards through to take off the extra material. Third, I could rip the boards down to a width that my handheld planer will take, but that's a lot more gluing. Also, thought about getting a dado blade to take extra material out of the center when ripping. I was wondering what The Chad or anybody else thought?

Greetings sawyer! Well here are my $0.02 (couldn't avoid that one! )... I would take 2x4s and rip them to barely over the thickness desired (leaving some room for hand planer and sanding) and that should get you there. In fact I used a thickness planer and found that I wasted a lot of wood! Or at least made lots of cedar sawdust for my friends dog bed! Hope this helps, let me know!
