You can use 4oz, but if the decking is very thin, or if you are going to beat up the board a lot, then i use 6oz, one layer each side. Zipper seam or lap seam works. Be sure to lay a "cheater coat" first. This is a very thin coat of resin over the board to seal it before the lam coat. Without it, the board would "drink" a lot of resin and become heavy, and even produce dry spots in the matting. Always consider, foam boards are very delicate before glassing, this wood construction is very solid even before glassing. I have even sealed boards with just resin, but it had thick skins, and hasn't leaked yet. I hope that helps!! Chad

Has anyone used a spar urethane as a cheater coat to seal the wood? Only question is, would it effect the glassing. My guess would be no, and would be easier to apply, but I could be wrong. If no one has tried that, I may give it a shot on a test piece to see if it holds and let you know.

I am also curious about urethane as the cheater coat. If anyone has any info please let us know.

I still have not tried it. I am hoping to get another board in the works soon, so once I do and have the resin out, I am going to try it out on some scrap pieces to see how it works.

OK guys a quick and urgent question......I have done the Lam coat plus 2 more coats using the tape method where this is below the apex of the rail and then once cured to a tacky finish it is removed, sanded down and flipped over. Not sure what the method is called....lap method?
Tonight I'm placing the the leash plug on the deck and when thats done I need to do the final sanding and finish coat.
My question is, I only want to use the resin as a finish coat (not sand and polish or varnish) so what is the best method to do this without getting a bad finish line along the rails?
Thanks and hoping to finish and launch this weekend!!
