Things looked good for a couple weeks and then the board developed some stress cracks that are pretty wide on each side of the center board , probably due to weather turning off pretty cold and the fact that you need to glass it pretty soon after you get everything glued up and shaped and finish sanded, I still have some finish shaping of the rails so my plan are now to remove the decking that is bad and before I put it back I will finish the rails , make some small cosmetic repair on the bottom and have everything real close before I do the repair on the top deck so I can glass soon after. I think I would probably glue up the top deck starting at the center and working out to the rail the next time. I glued up the panels and attached to the spine and rib which worked good for the bottom but I think that the top deck between the rocker and the camber or convex which it is just put a little to much stress on the 1/4" cedar planks. I will post some pics of some of my issues and If anyone has suggestions on how to best make these repairs any help is much appreciated . Attachments:

I have a crack from nose about 3' right down the center on the bottom not due to stress but due to me dropping the panel before glue up and then a poor attempt to glue it back together before I glued it to the spine and ribs, I am going to use some epoxy with fillers to repair this since I have the top deck planks pulled off and can get to both sides. Any comments appreciated Thanks Timmyp Attachments:

Hey Timmy, Sorry about your bad luck, but I think you are correct in assuming that the cold caused those cracks. I took a board up to Michigan and was going to glass it there, but when i got there the decking shrink so much that it started to split at the rails! Now I try to glass them ASAP! As far as fixing it, you have a few different options, see the OOPS section of the book. Basically, if it isnt an incredibly large crack, you can add Elmers white glue to fill it and wait for it to get tacky, then sand over it with 120grit and the sawdust will mix with the glue, making a filler that is the exact color of the surrounding wood. After it is dry, lightly sand again and it should look like a natural grain. Another option is to fill it with gorilla glue, wait for it to expand and the sand it flush., next dampen the surface and take a very sharp hand plane and carve a very thin veneer from lumber near the crack. keep this thin slice moist and glue it into place over the crack with white glue. lightly feather the edges once the glue dries. The last option, for a large crack, would be to take a piece of scrap with similar color and plane down a small sliver to fit in the crack, glue it in and smooth it out. Another option would be to router a trench down the length of the board, and over the crack, but only 1/2 way through the top deck. glue a strip into this trench and plane it smooth. This is a bit of work, but... Just a small setback, it's looking great otherwise! Keep it upo and thanks for sharing! Chad

Thanks for the advice Chad , I made some small repairs weeks back using those following the books suggestions and they worked great on the more cosmetic issues but the cracks that I have now which is a little hard to see in my 1st pic, I just think calls for more extreme measures so I have removed several planks and will be replacing them , I guess I will learn a lot on this board. Thanks Timmyp ps : I will post a pic of my D fin I made its not come apart yet. Attachments:
