Hi Chad, I couldn't get the 12mm thick 5 ply I wanted to use for the centre spine in any longer than 8' & as I needed to increase the length to 9'2" I used several lengths of 6mm 5 ply & laminated (glued with Gorilla Glue) them together staggering the joints so that the joints fell between ribs/spars & so ended up with a 9'4" length of 10ply 12mm (approx 1/2") thick. Shoulda taken a photo & I will tomorrow. I was always told during my carpentry/joinery training that laminated beams (which this is, albeit a very small one) are much stronger than solid. So hopefully it will work fine. What do you think? Regards, Paul

Hi Apauly, I am going to have to make a longer center spine as well for the 11" SUP build I am about to start. What I thought of was using a scarf joint. that makes a strong joint with no extra wood ie. weight. I can scarf the plywood before I glue the template on then cut it out. A scarf joint is easy and I have used them many times. Check out this link it might help explain how. www.oneoceankayaks.com/stitchglue/plyshophtm/scarfjig2.htmClayton
