Just purchased your SUP plans. Read them a few times and i have a few quick questions, I understand the differance between the design and shape of the spoon or not to spoon, But what i dont know is why would i build it one way or another? Do the 2 designs act differantly in the water? Or is it just visual? Also There wasnt much talk about fins. Any suggestions? Thanks very much in advance.

The spoon nose will make a difference in how it rides, but it will be very subtle and usually a little more noticeable in a surfing situation than opposed to paddling on a lake or something. The spoon forces the water "back" out of the spoon, and not out of the sides (as much) creating a slight bit more lift in the nose. It also makes the drag point farther back from the nose which will be noticeable when riding the nose or trimming out in the front, the front rails will also have a slight bit more "bite" in the wave in the nose and less "release" (as far as sliding or turning while trimmed out). Now that all of that is said, again, it is VERY subtle and hardly noticeable unless you are an experienced surfer.
The fin box for the 10' 6" SUP: place it about 7-8" from the tail and try a nice 10" fin and go from there. Fin choice, that is another story, there is no real right or no real wrong since EVERYBODY likes something different and will swear by a certain setup that another person loathes.
I hope that helps!!! Chad

i'm jumping ahead a bit here, as i've not even started the board yet, but when you say place the fin box 7" from the tail of of the board, do you mean 7" form the front or back of the fin box? i guess you mean the back of it or it would leave it too close to the tail?
just trying to get all the little questions out of the way before i start, paddle is made though, pictures to follow soon

Would the 7'' position for the fin box also apply to the 8' board?
