I also want to build a surf board and learn to surf before I turn 40 in 1.5 years. I think it would be awesome to learn on a board that I built. I'm totally stoked!!!!! I forgot to comment on this, be sure that you get a rack for the car that will carry your guns! And if you want to find some nice waves for learning to surf, come on down and visit us in Cocoa Beach! We've always got room for more!

Finally made it back to the shop. Took a little break. I have all the ribs aligned and glued. Now I've got to figure out the boards I will use for the bottom. They planed and ready to go. Attachments:

So this seemed like the easiest way to apply the glue to edges of boards. First I brushed the opposite side with water then flipped the boards and made a huge mess brushing the glue on. Attachments:

Wow! This took some time and patience. I must have spent 1.5 hours adjusting the boards until I was happy with the alignment. Found a a crack or maybe I cracked one of the boards clamping, repair time already Hopefully all turns out well. Attachments:

I thought I better make sure I could get the board out of the basement. I got it upstairs. Looks even larger when I couldn't stand it up at the highest part of the vaulted ceiling. Attachments:

Not compared to the mess that I made doing them individually, seems like this good idea was so obvious it plum evaded me...

I'm fairly sure that it will, I had to get very creative with some of the cracks and stuff that I ended up with. Funny thing, after I glassed it, I couldn't see any of them. I got real good at cutting up small pieces of wood to glue back into the crack!

I finally glued the bottom skin. I used 15 cinder blocks to get the board to warp. I hope my table/jig holds up.

I have tried doing my first rail 3 times with no success. I was attempting a dry installation but the last 18" just wouldn't take the bend. I knew better but didn't want to wait for the soaking. Back to the store for PVC. I'll make a soaker tube and soak half of them at a time. Maybe I'll finish this board for next season.😜😛

Yeah, definately need to soak those puppies! I ended up soaking them for anywhere from a couple of hours to a day! Try hot water too! I bought a 10' piece of PVC, glued a cap to one end and then would set the open end on something 3' to 5' high and the other end on the ground. Still needed to use some scrap blocks taped to the open to hold the sticks underwater.
You probably already know to work from the middle of the board out to the ends so get em wet and work them slow...
Good luck!

Or do I clamp them and let them dry then glue later. I didn't know if the gorilla glue would hold with the wood soaked all they way through.
