First time builder (11' SUP) everything has gone well so far. I'm bulding up the rails out of 8 per-side 3/4" cedar. I have three rails to go and it appears the rail is not going to line up with the top of the ribs. Any advice? Trying to post a picture ........OK can someone tell me real quick how to post a pic? THANKS !

To post a picture, click REPLY, then a new window appears and you will click the "Choose File" button on the top, to the right of "Attachment:" You can then find the picture on your computer or Camera disk and upload it.

Actually, if you are building the SUP you should be using (8) 1" triangles, it should have been noted on your blueprints.

YUP ! That would explain it !! I figured if I use 10 - 3/4 rails it should work out fine. Just a little more clamping and gluing Thanks for the quick response.

Cool, Maybe you can use a 1" strip for the last strips so you have more gluing surface and a bit more stock to feather the deck in with. But it will work either way as long as you are mindful of the amount of wood that is there to work with.

Chad, Rails are all good used some square stock for the last one a planned everything down. This build has been really fun. Now I have a decking issue (top deck) went to fit the top deck on and POP ! Ok, no big deal I poped a seem down the middle so I re-glued and clamped over night. Saw in the past posts where you can wet down the top side of the deck to get it to bend easier...ok, set up saw horses wet it down.....the deck started to bend on the sides (nice arch) btw I rought cut the deck already to the shape of the board. Then the deck really started to bend in an arch Kinda like a hudge upside down smiley face Took it off the horses and set it on top of the board....pushed down nice and easy in the middle ....POP...POP....POP.... Its a beatiful top deck....I used alot of glue and clamped each piece one by one when building it. Now it has a crazy bend and has broke many of the bonds. Good news is I didn't try glueing it to the board yet. Should I finish seperating the bonds on the deck and try installing it in pieces ? What's your advice ? Thanks again, Erik

Ok, after a few beers here's what I did......Left the splits in the deck and clamped it onto the board after soaking in water. I'm going to let the deck conform to the board over night then clamp and glue the seems that split back together !
a few PBR's always helps ;D
