I think two of my ribs broke free from the top deck of my SUP, right where I stand. I put it in the river on a hot day and didn’t wait long enough for the board to cool enough before closing the vent. Was on the board, heard a loud “POP” and the deck where I was standing started to flex and I started to hear a squeak. I can see a thin line where the glass has separated at that crease (flex point). My concern is that at some point the epoxy will fatigue and will no longer be water tight or will become bigger. Is this something I should worry about? Is it something that can be fixed? I can't seem to figure out how to attach a picture.

Man, I feel your pain. It is amazing when you see just how much air expands and contracts from as little as 10 degrees, any more than that and you start having problems... That separation (or delam) will grow slowly as the deck flexes over and over, you can sand the glass right off at that spot and then glass that area and sand it back smooth. I have had this happen on one of my early boards and I just left it, It grew slowly but never fractured the glass. I eventually drilled a 1/4" hole there, shot spray foam inside (carefully, it expands with tremendous power and can lift the deck right up!) and then glued 1/4" dowel rod in the hole, sanded it down and then re-glassed. You may be able to find a Gortex vent so the board can breathe all the time, I haven't used them yet but so far everyone i talk to swears that they have never had any problems with Gortex..... I hope that helps! Chad

i have used the gortex vents from greelight surf supply they are great just remember that you need some way to support them before you glue down your top the 1/4 to 3/16 deck top is not enough beef enough to hold them in and they reccommend to for a sup.
