Yeah, but they bought all the pieces up to do condos and you can't touch it now , even in a bad market....
Jimmy did Eric's for $300-350....he has to see it to give you a set price.... I am going to just epoxy mine....Ribs are on 6" centers and I am doing the deck first and glueing 5mm strips of ply under the deck, where most of the weight will be....might glue in some half ribs on 3" centers. I am doing 2 strips at a time, but putting on the glue, right before the strip. first time one side skinned over before I could get the strip completely clamped. One strip sets a tad high, but will sand out. Clay bennett told me wood boards were "old school' ...that I needed to switch to foam...His price is why I started this board...lol

Hmmmm, I think that I will follow through on my original plans and glass it myself, that cost is about 3 times what I have into the board now!
Thanks for the info!

A little trim and sanding, then pick out the pattern for this side... www.grainsurf.com/forum/download/file.php?id=6247[/img Need to tune-up some ribs... Kerfs to shape nose end of rails... Tear out from drilling holes... Pattern looks good... No twist

It's coming together! Is that 8' long?

Right now , Yes... allows me to use 8' long 2x4's......I have the nose glued up and the tail will be 1/2" strips, glued up to form the tail . then the outer rails wil be formed, locking in the nose and tail. The plans called for 50/50, but local shaper, suggested 60/40.... I like the fact that with the shaped rails and the spreaders I put in the nose and tail, I did not need to spend time on a table. I glued it up on a piece of OSB and then slotted the spreaders and dropped in the spar. then added the ribs.... glued some 1/4 sg. pieces to the inside of the rail and glued and clamped the rib ends to them... seems stout...will try to weight it before the bottom goes on.... Suppose to be 9' ... will probably end up 9' 3" ! This is how I will lay up rails...

Bad and good news...Dropped the board
Crushed a corner, dry cedra pops easily..... Decided to trim the outer sub rails, 1 thickness ( 3/4" ),Will make the board easier to finish the rails with out being to wide.... 24.5" now, with about an 1' of rail buildout on each side, to cut back 3/4" per side will make the board easier to carry.... Will try to get a pictorial update down soon ...when the air gets wetter... which is any minute now ... : (

Ouch! How bad is it? Photo's? But the easier to carry is a good thing! I forgot to show you the spot on my rail where I went a bit too far in with a belt sander... After all the planing and sanding there is still a couple of dents in the rail, but when I pick it up my fingers end up right in the dents. Almost like I planned it! Going to try your suggestion for installing the fin box this weekend, maybe glass next weekend?

I didn't have the camera charged but I cut one layer of the sub-rails down .. ( will use to make next board.. ; )....) 5/8 ' ... remember when a 1 by used to be 3/4 " thick... lol Will glue on the two strips , top and bottom and then a solid, then two more and then 2 or 3 solid strips, staggering width, till I get the buildup I want...using the thumb plane as I go ...taking off the little corner ridge as I go ...will be ready for sanding after last strip !

Well, taking off the outer board , 3/4" (5/8").... new dimensiom of a 1 x?.... really helped and I sanded to the line and am ready to start my rails. per My diagram I will glue a shaped top and bottom strip . I have beveled the outer 1 1/4" of my top and bottom decks, rolling it down to the edge of the sub-rail. Will bevel and shape the two rail strips and then glue on a solid strip and then 2 more 1/2" x 3/8" stripson each rail , shape with thumb plane, add nose and tail and then wrap with a couple or more solid strips. Will probably use some real thin hard wood to toughen up the rails...... taking my son surfing before school starts. If not for weather and health, should have finished. But as we all know , it's a bout the journey , right ... ; ))
