I already posted the start of this fin in the assembly section but I thought I would put one in the right spot. Chad I used the drawing you gave me and modified it slightly by making it a little larger. It will end up about 9" before glass. I sanded it and foiled it and its a little thinner than 3/8" in the center. I was a little woried about it being heavy because I was using hardwoods, but I still think its as light as a standard solid fiberglass fin or at least comparable in weight and will look a lot better. Glass will be next.

Very nice. Did you laminate a few pieces of wood together across the thickness?

I didn't laminate it as far as thickness. It all statred out as almost 1/2" thick wood. I glued the pieces together vertically and then ran it through the planer until I got the right thickness. This pic might explain better.

My first fin I used 2 pieces of wood turned 90 degrees to each other along the grain. It was strong but I prefer your design. I may try three pieces to get a better look. Attachments:
