I picked up a couple pieces of redwood yesterday one was a good solid and clear 9" 2x4. I will be using this for top and back strips. I also picked up a thinner 4" wide piece that is 10' long I was going to use for the rails. Problem is after measuring it, only measures 1/2" thick. If I do not use a 3/4" triangles will this throw me off considerably? Has anyone ran into this?

You can cut rails from 1/2" stock if you stagger the cuts slightly, see attachment. Attachments:

And the rail strips would sit like this (see attachment, the flats are exaggerated for illustration purposes) This should work for you, but let me know what shape you are building and I will double check my calculations... Attachments:

Thanks I can see how that would work. I played around with it a little today and see how I can make it work, but I think since it is my first with this method I am going to go with some pine rails of the correct size and use the 1/2 for some accents on the deck and back. The plans are for the 9'2" Thanks again

Right on! try not to have any knots on the rails, they can be a real bugger to work around! Keep us posted on the progress. Chad

I was going to use 1x4 basswood for the rails on my 10'6 SUP. Any experience getting that to bend properly? Would pine be a better choice?

I've never tried bass wood before. Rail strip number one is the most difficult to bend. If you really want to use bass wood you could always use smaller triangles ( twice as many )
