Hi Chad ! Finally I found some time to build a HWS using your awesome rail method. I am using pawlonia ( for deck, bottom and rail strips ) and will add a small nose block of cedar, so the first strip has to bend quite a lot at the nose of the board. Do you think it would be a good idea to add a block of pawlonia between the triangles and the nose block itself ? that way I could "shape" that block in stead of bending the strip ( like adding an inner block prior to the outer block, I am not sure if I am clear enough ) The bad thing is that a line would be visible between the two blocks, inner and outer ... Thanks in advance ! Daniel from Argentina PS congrats on the forum and the new book !

That sounds like a fine idea, adding the inner block. You shouldnt notice the line all that much if you use the same color wood and have a tight fit. It looks like you are coming along fine. Just be careful while adding the rail strips, you should leaver the assembly clamped down in the middle so the rocker holds its shape, the stress of the bottom skin and the rail strips can sometimes crack your wood or release glue bonds. I'm looking forward to seeing this finished!! Keep us posted. Chad

Hi Chad, Daniel & everyone,
Just wanted to say I'm at the stage where I'm glueing up the triangular rail strips & thought this was probably the best thread to post my comments as Daniel has started this thread on bending the rail strips.
And what I wanted to say is, its an absolutely brilliant system Chad.
I've got 3 strips done on both sides so only one more to go either side & all done.
Admitably I'm building a 9'2" longboard so the bends are not as great as on a short fish or performance board but I've had no trouble bending them into place without wetting or steaming & the Gorilla Glue just never lets go once its cured.
I have had the advantage of having the use of heaps of 'G' clamps, quick release clamps & spring clamps courtesy of friends & the school (where I live & work) woodwork shop. So there's been no chance of any of the rail strips moving out of correct position during glue up.
All good fun!
Pauly

Danibel,
When I first saw your jig, I was wondering what all the extra bolt length was for. Then it occured to me--Are you planning to use those to bolt on the braces for gluing the top skin in steaqd of using clamps?
