My winter project. It has been fun to pick away at it as I have time. Today I cut all the 1x6 boards in half. I now have 12 boards as 6 bookmatched pairs ready for the planer. If I was doing it again I would have put a teflon "skid" inside the 4x4s of the jig to make things slide a little easier.

At this point everything is still small enough to store. Next step is planing/gluing skins. Once I assemble the spar/ribs it starts taking up valuable space in the shop. Attachments:

Sticks cut for the side rails. I compromised a bit and made them touch smaller than 1 3/8 on Opp and Adj sides Attachments:

Had to do a dry assembly just to convince myself I was making progress. Attachments:

4 cedar rail triangles are not going to work. No possible way to make that bend at the bow. Trying 8 ...then moving on to a different material.

No version of side rails was working for me. Everything was cracking. I switched to using multiple strips appx 3/8 thickness. I'm slowly making progress. Should have the rails done next week. Pics soon.

Finally has the basic shape of a SUP. I'm happy with the bookmatched strips on the top skin. Only one small crack in a section I plan to have covered anyhow. Attachments:

Getting some work done during a break from school. Time to cut the nose and tail then make it more symmetrical.

cut away for the nose and tail are done. Rails are roughed out. There is a section on the nose that didn't glue down tight, but its accessible now that I've cut off the scrap.

Making slow progress. Side rails are shaped and fair. Tail is in and fair. Starting the nose this week. I won't have it done before school starts again in Fall. Looking forward to finishing the glass after graduation and using it next summer.
