Just Started on my second 5-11 Fish. I cut a second #4 rib and plan to move the rear ribs back one space each and drop the #1 rib at the tail to widen her but a bit and make the rails more parralel thru the rear of the board. Will use the original thickess at each location and thin the wider ribs down using the old thickness as a guide. Any thoughts??

Sounds like it would work out just fine, I don't see any problems with construction (actually less problems since the rails would not curve as tight). Are you trying to improve the ride or I've been thinking about that fish being my second wood board...would love to hear how it rides! Maybe extend it to a 6-0 or 6-6...

The first fish is pretty awesome and rides real well. No real complaint there. Trying to speed her up a bit and catch more waves...

I can dig that!!!
If increased wave catching is your goal, would there be any benefit to reducing the rocker? Maybe a combination of the two would work since the rocker is key for wave catching vs. carving.
Just my thoughts on the subject...let me know which way you go!

Yeah, it would get a bit closer to the Mini Simmons shape, less rocker and wider tail, definitely easier to get into waves! Don't you have the plans for the mini Simmons?

Negatory on the mini-simmons, just the 9-2 performance lb...

The rocker is already pretty flat plus I cut two sets of ribs and spine at the same time. This is a minor mod to just the rear ribs 1,2,3. One of the things I learned from research on planning hull theory is the impact of a tapered rear and how it increases friction from turbulence along the backof the board as the flow lines leave the board. One of the benefits of a Simmons hull.
I don't have the mini simmons plan but that will be my next boards #s 5 & 6
